FARM NEWS:

We went SOLAR! The roof has 80% panels on it. What a huge difference. Heating this home with only a woodstove and only using one tank of oil a year for hot water ......  we do what we can.

The Buff Orpington hens are finally laying eggs again. Got rid of the extra rooster and added better lighting and new nests to their coop.
2011 - The Muscovey ducks are in the freezer but we kept 2 beautiful hens and one gorgeous
drake. They began laying a month ago so maybe if we are lucky we will be raising
ducklings in the Spring. It is February 2012 and the girls are starting to nest.
2012 - One girl is a dedicated nester who chases the other 2 away from her eggs and she
has very nice nest with 10-11 eggs in it.  My friend Anthony is bringing over 10
Mallard ducklings for me and when old enough they will be fun to watch at the
Petting Zoo with their own little pool.
2011 - The X-Rock chickens are in the freezer..we found a local registered processor that did all
22 in 35 minutes. It was interesting watching how they streamlined the operation.
2012- We got 20 Cornish Rocks locally at Tractor Supply and I picked up 5 New Hampshire
Reds to be pets as well as egg producers.
May 2012 I jut had to get some ducks for myself and the Petting Zoo. 5 Pekins and 10
Mallards. The Pekins roam my front garden and have their own pool.
The Mallards will be behind the rabbit village near the Zen Garden and have a small
          pool too

I spent all of this (and last) fall & winter .. building, updating and expanding the solar heated and weatherproof rabbit shelters.
I built 6 units that house over 40 rabbits not counting their kits. Someday I will make the perfect Rabbit house.
During the winter, the temp reaches 45-70 degrees on sunny 20 degree days. They worked out really well. I also use heat lamps for the new babies if needed but most experienced does make amazing nests.
Much of the bunny village has fencing & barricades to keep loose bunnies safe and easier to catch---well kinda. Yes they get out...I forget to close a door or two at times. Ehh old age..LOL
Other than filling my heated 32 gallon water barrels, draining hoses, shoveling roofs and pathways, and hammering the ice from rubber water dishes, it hasn't been too bad a winter yet.....

ALL I NEED IS SUNNY DAYS!!!!!

I get the shelters ready for Spring and Summer by exchanging windows for screens, opening them up and adding shades. I use fans
to cool the shelters when the temperature gets over 80 degrees PLUS FROZEN BOTTLES OF WATER for each bunny....It has worked great!

There are some youtube videos of some of our animals including rabbits and Pigtunia.

The last link is a video of my baby bunnies who were orphaned at 2 1/2 weeks of age. I fed them by bottle until they were weaned. They loved goat's milk yogurt with baby food bananas! It also helped their digestion.
They think I am their momma. TOO CUTE! Now they are parents with babies of their own!
